Anna Seymour, Contemporary Dancer (Deaf) from Melbourne (member of dance quartet The Delta Project), and Michael Hennessy, Sprung!! Artistic Director (Hearing) are excited to be coordinating a deaf-inclusive dance theatre workshop from 10-13th April open to all persons with an interest in dance who can engage in simple dance exercises with an open mind. Anna and Michael have an exciting week planned, exploring such themes as “Home” and “Silence” among others. The workshop will involve dance theatre, movement exploration, improvisation tasks, and creating choreography. “Dance has the ability and power to transcend language barriers” says Anna in an interview with Frankie magazine September 2016. While Auslan interpreters will be available throughout the workshop to support Anna’s teaching and the integration and participation of deaf dancers, the workshop is suitable for all who love expressing themselves through movement. It will conclude on Thursday April 13th with a showing at 3 pm, all welcome, gold coin donation appreciated.
Workshop Cost $200. Special offer to dancers attending a Sprung!! workshop for the first time: Bring a friend for free! Single day attendance 70$ per day. Orientation and Introduction to Auslan for workshop participants: Sunday April 9th 2 pm, Tintenbar.
Workshop participants are invited to bring a photograph of “Home” for the Monday workshop. Dress is should wear casual clothes that allow movement, preferably blacks or plain colours.
